About the Department of Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering is the discipline that applies the knowledge of engineering, physics, engineering mathematics, and materials science principles to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest of engineering disciplines. The mechanical engineering field requires an understanding of core areas of mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, and electricity. In addition to these core principles, mechanical engineers use many modern tools such as computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and product life cycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, weapons, and others. It is the branch of engineering that involves the design, production, and operation of machinery. The field has continually evolved to incorporate advancements; today mechanical engineers are pursuing developments in such areas as composites, mechatronics, and nanotechnology. It also overlaps with aerospace engineering, metallurgical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, and other engineering disciplines to varying amounts. Mechanical engineers may also work in the field of biomedical engineering, specifically with biomechanics, transport phenomena and modeling of biological systems.
The department of Mechanical engineering was established in the year 2009 with an intake of 60 B.Tech students and 60 Diploma students. M.Tech. (Machine Design) course was started in the year 2012, with an intake of 24. The department is well equipped with modern laboratory equipments comprising of 14 laboratories for UG courses and 14 laboratories for Diploma engineering students. The department has well equipped Laboratories for PG students CAD Lab. It is equipped with 24 computer systems with the software like AUTO-CAD, ANSYS and MATLAB. The Incubation centre is recently introduced in the department for pressing the Research and development activities in the department. The incubation centre have a six axis robotic arm, which is a state of the art system for understanding the basic and advanced functioning of the Robot as well as advanced CNC turning machine for research and development purpose. The department is conducting seminars, workshops, value added programs and certificate programs at regular intervals for the faculty and students in order to cope up with the latest technologies and higher standards of education. With the laudable accomplishments of our faculties, the students are blessed with perfect mentors. The well qualified teachers are a true guide nurturing our gems into a capable individual. Mechanical engineers have a promising career in the fields of automobiles, airplanes, thermal power plants, and solar power to name a few. In order to make the students proficient mechanical engineer, our institution opens all the ways and indulges them in productive practical sessions. The workshops of the institution are specially installed with all the required tools and devices that facilitate in the smooth practices. We keep on updating the students with the innovative inventions in science and technology.
